The JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race took place today, Saturday 28th June, with a record nearly 1900 boats taking part. The TEAMORIGIN Extreme 40 team took line honours being the first boat round the race course taking 3 hours, 23 minutes and 50 seconds to complete the course. They were only 15 minutes off the multihull record held by Francis Joyon of 3 hours, 8 minutes and 29 seconds.
The Team consisted of Robert Greenhalgh (Skipper and Helm), Peter Greenhalgh (Tactician/Main), Julian Cressant (Trimmer) and Matt Cornwell (bow). They also carried two guests aboard – Sue Pelling (IPC/Yachting World) and Ian Roman (photographer).
The Extreme 40’s started at 0610 in the second start group (orange group) so were behind the first start of the big boats. The first leg to the Needles was a beat seeing around 18/20 knots, TEAMORIGIN overtook Leopard at that stage by tucking in close to the Needles whereas ICAP Leopard went out towards the Needles Fairway buoy. Kites then went up for a fast trip to St Cats where ICAP Leopard reported around 24 knots. The mist came down and visibility was almost zero so the team had real difficulty navigating their way at that stage. The continued their lead all the way to the finish line crossing at 0933.50. Two other Extreme 40s, JP Morgan Asset Management (Shirley Robertson), Team Aqua finished in 2nd and 3rd position across the line.
The official report stated:
Rob Greenhalgh's Extreme 40 TEAMORIGIN was the first boat home in this year's race, completing the course in 3 hours 23 minutes 50 seconds, just ahead of Shirley Robertson on JPMorgan Asset Management also an Extreme 40.

"We've had a fantastic day. The sailing was fast and hairy, right at the upper limit for us. From The Needles to St Cat's there was only a quarter mile visibility and on this type of a boat, our navigation equipment is basic. It's a great result to add to our iShares Cup events, which we're leading overall with two seconds. We'll be back at the beginning of Skandia Cowes Week for the next instalment."
