Better known as Juan K, the Argentinean designer has been a sailor all his life; he grew up on the optimist circuit and then experienced success at various higher levels including Commodores Cup, One Ton Cup and the Star Class. At the age of 22 he graduated from Southampton with a degree in yacht and small craft design and his career as a designer has grown ever since.
In 1997 he setup his own company, Juan Yacht Design, which are based in Valencia and has taken on a huge array of projects from one off 115” maxi’s to the Admiral’s Cup to TP52’s. To date his greatest accolade is the design and production of the two ABN Amro boats for the 2006 Volvo Ocean Race where the number one boat stole the show winning six out of the nine offshore legs.
For someone so young he also has a vast amount of America’s Cup experience, teaming up with the French ‘Le Defi’ immediately after leaving university and helping them achieve results that exceeded all expectations. For the 2003 Cup he joined the Italian outfit Prada, before moving on to BMW Oracle most recently as principal designer.
