| IAN WEIGHELL |
Year of Birth: 1976
Nationality: Britain
Role: Grinder
Ian’s strength in America’s Cup sailing lies predominantly in his own strength. Following the tradition of a number of rowers converting to sailing, Ian is an ex-oarsman who won a blue for Oxford in the 2001 University Boat Race.
His raw power, along with a ferocious desire to win saw him signing onto the books of GBR Challenge for the 2003 campaign. He then moved on to the Swedish team, but needed no hesitation to return to a British challenge when TEAMORIGIN was announced.
Past America’s Cup Experience
2007 Victory Challenge Grinder
2003 GBR Challenge Grinder
Why you joined TEAMORIGIN:
“I'm really excited about joining TEAMORIGIN and I can't wait to get out on the water and start sailing. For me the chance to represent my country is a huge plus and although as professional sportspeople we get used to representing different owners and different Nations there is always an extra boost when you are able to represent your home nation - this is especially so in the case of the America's Cup. On top of this joining a team with some of the best sailors in the world is a privilege in itself and one which will I will find inspiring. I'm looking forward to sailing with the other guys in the team and learning from them.”
