The Royal Thames Yacht Club
One of Britain’s most senior clubs the RTYC has been a permanent member of the British yachting establishment since its founding in 1775. In terms of the America’s Cup the Thames is no stranger and certainly no beginner at this competition. It was the Royal Thames that became the first ever challenger for the America’s Cup in 1870 through member James Ashbury. That challenge and the relationship with the New York Yacht Club, the holders of the Cup, were at the origin of what is now a challenge driven competition.
The Royal Thames challenged twice more over the intervening 150 years, once in 1964 and once in 1986. The Royal Thames is based in London, runs an annual regatta on the sea called the Cumberland Regatta, and has 1500 members today.

RYA OnBoard Programme
TEAMORIGIN is the Main Partner to the RYA’s OnBoard programme. This UK national programme has been running for 3 years and aims, over a ten year period, to introduce 500,000 young people to sailing in the UK and retain 10% of those as active participants in the sport. So far over 30,000 first experiences have been delivered and 1,500 new regulars are now involved in sailing. TEAMORIGIN contributes both a financial investment in the growth of the programme but also commits the team members’ personal time – giving them a chance to put something back into the sport they love.
